Current status of Malaysian crude palm kernel oil characteristics

A one year crude palm kernel oil survey was conducted from May 1998 to April 1999 to monitor the oil characteristics. Nineteen kernel crushers from all over Malaysia participated in the survey. The mean composition of the major fatty acids was as follows: lauric acid, 47.9%, mystric acid, 16.7%, palmitic acid, 8.5% and oleic acid, 14.9%. The mean moisture and impurities content, free fatty acid content, iodine value (Wijs) and colour were 0.127%, 2.01% as lauric acid, 17.8 and 6.1 Red 60.4 Yellow respectively. These values indicate that the analysed crude palm kernel oil samples were within the Malaysian Edible Oil Manufacturer’s Association Domestic Contract and Specification requirement
