Expected Malaysian palm oil production 1995 and some consideration on factors affecting palm oil prices
CHOW Chee SingA prediction is given for Malaysian crude palm oil production for 1995 and some observations are made regarding the effects of world production and stocks of palm oil and other major oils and fats on crude palm oil prices. Malaysian crude palm oil production is predicted to be 7.8 Mt in 1995, a substantial increase of 8% over 1994, which is partly accounted for by the increase in mature area of about 3%. A single equation model based on monthly production and stocks of the major edible oils appears to give a reasonable explanation of variability in palm oil prices, although there is room for improvement in the model.
